DISCOVERING OUR ROOTS

Discovering Our Roots

Are we there yet? This is a question that many kids throughout history have repeatedly whined and screamed from the backseat of the family vehicle. Every parent has had to put up with the screeching sound kids make as they seem purposefully draw out those four letter words. It makes us long for the teacher’s nails grinding from top to bottom of the green chalkboard pleading for the student’s attention.

As annoying as this question can be, most of the time there is excitement behind those words. They don’t want to be cooped up in the car with their smelly brother or their drooling sister. They want to start the vacation, visit with grandparents, or catch up with friends they haven’t seen in awhile. They want to start the adventure. Of course, as parents, we realize the adventure has already started.

Are we there yet? This is a question our family is asking ourselves. It’s not that we don’t love where we are. It’s that we want to already be where we are going. We want to start our adventure. It would be easy to be the whining kid in the backseat “breathing” on his sister, but we are choosing to be the wise parent and realize that our adventure to start “Our Roots Farm” has just begun.
